September: back to routine, back to the park
New term, new timetables, same happy dogs
The autumn reset 🍂🐾
The school run is back, office desks are filling up again, and September always brings the same shift across all four branches: routines settling back into place after a loose, unpredictable summer. For a lot of dogs, that's genuinely good news. Predictable days, set drop-off times and a return to the usual rhythm tend to suit dogs just as much as it suits the humans arranging their diaries around it.
"September at The Wag Club: term time is back, and so are the regulars."
Settling back in
If your dog had a more relaxed summer, more time at home, different walk times, maybe a holiday or two, don't be surprised if the first week or so back at daycare takes a bit of readjustment. A few things to expect:
More excitement at drop-off as dogs remember the routine and get back into the swing of seeing their daycare friends
Deeper naps at home in the evenings, especially in the first week or two back
A little extra clinginess from dogs who had more constant company over the summer
Faster settling for regulars, since dogs who've kept a consistent schedule tend to slot straight back in
Cooler mornings, shorter days
September marks the turn of the season. Mornings are cooler, evenings are drawing in, and we start adjusting outdoor time accordingly at every branch, more layers on the walking gear, a closer eye on light levels for early morning and late afternoon walks, and a gradual shift away from the peak summer precautions.
It's also a good moment to check your dog's routine at home matches what's happening with us. If mealtimes, walk times or bedtime are shifting now that term time structure is back, let your branch know so we can keep things consistent across the day.
Looking ahead to autumn
With routines locking back in for the rest of the year, now's a good time to confirm your regular days or adjust your booking if term time has changed your schedule. Half term and the run-up to the festive season fill up faster than people expect, so getting your usual slots secured now saves a scramble later.
Here's to a settled September for dogs and owners alike.
